WHY WE HOST AN IN HOUSE TOURNAMENT
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
We are not a competition school.
Our focus has always been self defense, safety, and the long game of Jiu Jitsu. That said, we also recognize that a small amount of pressure, applied in a controlled and familiar environment, can be a valuable teacher.
That is why we host a simple in house tournament once in the summer and once in the winter.
This is meant to be fun, educational, and safe. It gives students something to aim for, something to prepare for, and a chance to experience nerves and problem solving without the chaos, expense, and rule confusion of large outside tournaments.
By keeping this event in house, we avoid mismatched expectations and habits formed under modern sport rule sets. Everyone here trains the same way, under the same philosophy, with the same understanding of safety and control.

WHAT THIS TOURNAMENT IS
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
• A learning experience
• A chance to apply Jiu Jitsu under light pressure
• A way to set short term training goals
• An opportunity to build confidence
• A controlled environment with instructors as referees
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
WHAT THIS TOURNAMENT IS NOT
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
• It is not IBJJF
• It is not designed for outside competitors
• It is not about gaming rules
• It is not about hurting training partners
• It is not a measure of long term skill or rank
This event exists to support your training, not define it.

SAFETY AND SUBMISSIONS
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Heel hooks, knee bars, and toe holds are allowed for adults, including in the gi.
All leg locks are touch and go.
Once a submission is clearly seated and dangerous, the referee will stop the match. There is no need to finish.
Referees will determine whether a submission was legitimate or a bluff. This is done in the interest of safety and trust.
Our goal is to build awareness, not injuries.

ROUNDS AND PAIRING
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Every competitor is guaranteed a minimum of three matches.
This is not a single elimination format.
After the first round, competitors are grouped based on results. Those who win continue to face other winners. Those who lose are paired with others who also lost. This allows everyone to keep competing, learning, and improving.
No one is eliminated after one match.
This format keeps the experience positive, active, and fair for both kids and adults.
